Welsh Lib Dem Assembly Member for Cardiff Central, Jenny Randerson AM has welcomed the Minister for Health's positive response to a demand from Ms Randerson that the drug Lenalidomide be made available immediately to Multiple Myeloma patients.

Jenny Randerson's question, followed a demonstration led by Cardiff Central resident, Mr Peter Ataou this lunchtime. Mr Ataou yesterday received news that his LHB had decided his appeal for funding had been successful.

Jenny Randerson said: "It seems from what Edwina Hart said in response to me that she will instruct LHBs to begin funding Lenalidomide immediately across Wales. If this is the case, this is a great victory for Mr Ataou and his fellow campaigners."

"It is an odd coincidence that the LHB suddenly decided to fund Mr Ataou's treatment, just a day before his widely publicised protest. It is particularly strange as they had previously said a decision may take many weeks.

"If Edwina's warm words to me come good, it will mean Multiple Myeloma patients in the future will not have to go through what Mr Ataou has.
